Welcome once again to the show that never ends…..well, that’s not really right is it? It ends every Sunday afternoon and then lies dormant for a week. Anyhoo, here’s the Britblog Roundup, your guide to the very best of the
]]>Even if we can find a way to deport people, how will it help?

]]>We are talking about Jamaat-e-Islami as the organisation which is “rather too conservative”?
From the CS Monitor
Ahmed Abdul Qadoos, a Jamaat party member, was arrested alongside the two Al Qaeda terrorists. They had been holed up in the home of his mother, Farzana Qadoos, who is an elected district counselor for the conservative Islamic party.
…
Officials say [Al Qaeda’s third-in-command Khalid Sheik] Mohammed had been coming and going from the home, apparently with little notice.
…
A Jamaat member was in the Karachi apartment where police found Al Qaeda leader Ramzi Binalshibh, and a doctor arrested in Lahore several months back for Al Qaeda ties was also linked to the party.
…
But senior officials here are starting to admit that they are finding growing links between the Jamaat and Al Qaeda terrorists on the run. “All of the activists and terrorists who have been apprehended in recent months have had links to the Jamaat-e-Islami, whether we have arrested them in Lahore or here or Karachi….” says Pakistan’s Interior Minister Makhdoom Faisel Saleh Hayat. “They have been harboring them.”
…
“The Jamaat has never condemned 9/11, and denies that Al Qaeda is a terrorist organization. This is a group that believes 9/11 was carried out by Jews in America,” says Ahmed Rashid, a Pakistani author on terror issues. “The really scary thing is that this is also the most moderate Islamic party in Pakistan.”
Now, sure, there are more zany religious parties than Jamaat in the world.
And Jamaat claims that it was all a set up to discredit them, etc.
And Pakistan is a military dictatorship.
And Pakistani politics are very byzantine and convoluted.
And this is probably all part of the “Great Game” or whatever…
But really, to be found with Al Qaeda suspects are found in your house three times looks like carelessness.
What I’m interested in is why the Foreign and Commonwealth Office has an “outreach” department which involves partnering with Jamaat front organsations in the United Kingdom?
Anybody know?
